I have a Compaq Pressario and for some reason after I shut down the computer about 15 or so minutes later the computer turns on by itself, so I have to turn the power off on the back of the computer to keep it from turning back on. Does anyone know why this is occuring and is there a solution to the problem. thanks...
check for viruses & check in the bios power management that the computer is off after a power failure.
i reinstalled windows xp and it still does it, i opened up the case to see if i could find the problem but everything looked okay... im thinking that something might be wrong with the power supplie.
do you have a spare hard drive to load windows on from scratch to make certain it is a hardware not software problem. also in the bios in power management there is a setting that allows the lan to waken the computer up, is that enabled or disabled??
The computer starts by itself without an OS and isn't connected to the internet, so those can't be it and nothing looked wrong when i had the computer open, so i have no clue why it's doing it. Maybe there's a bad wire that i cant see..
how do you get into the bios? my computer doesn't show anything when it boots up, it just shows Compaq on the screen when the computer turns on, there's nothing to choose from when it starts.
that's what i was doing but nothing happened, ........................................................................ I still think something might be wrong with the power supplie because when i turn the switch on the back of the computer, the computer starts up, and that doesn't happen to my other computer. ........................................................................ also(if this helps) i have to manually turn the computer off when i shut it down, a screen comes up that says "its now safe to turn your computer off"
i have given up on my computer so i am going to give it to my brother so he can deal with it thanks for all the help that you have given me
