Ok, here's the story - I've upgraded my system (new mainboard - cpu - ram & HD) re-installed my xp sp2, updated etc..
Since all of this happened I am having some peculiar problems when browsing, particulary with E-Bay, but happens on other sites as well. As an example, I go to E-Bay, its all good, click, say, buy - computers - computer upgrades - cases, everything is fine. When click after that - used only - show items, the browser hangs and eventually times out.I can then only see pages that have previously loaded, all else is inaccessible. It happens with both IE and firefox. I also get the a similar thing with Hotmail, but not every time.
I've done cache cleans, ran Spybot - Adaware - AVG in safe mode and found very little.
My wife runs a mac through the same connection with no hassles (I suppose there's something in that in itself...)
98% of what I browse is fine, It happens the odd time on random stumble upon sites, and has got me completley flummoxed.
I offer, sincerely, a six pack of Australia's (and possibly the worlds) finest beer - Coopers Sparkling Ale- to anyone, anywhere who can solve this for me....

    Cheers

i must say this is a predicament. try and see how it goes when the mac isn't hooked up the network, while using opera or one of the other less popular browsers, also make sure that the entire page has loaded entirely (you can tell by that random giberish on the bottom of the page). i'll continue to think of different ideas and keep you posted if these don't work

Nae joy, I have previously tried disconnecting the Mac, and got exactly the same issue with Opera (although I didn't mind the product at all)
Other things I've tried are setting all my browser options to low security, updating Java, running different registry fixes and kicking the tower...
the only thing that I can think of is that it is some sort of error when I installed XP (i bundled it together with sp2 and all of the updates onto one disk) although, given that most of the sites I visit are fine, even this seems a long shot........

Hi again, yeah I've tried that, to no avail...
Do you think a windows repair might help??

it's always worth a try. also although this might be drastic if this is in any way software related then reinstalling windows and formating (after backing up) your hard drive would fix it.

p.s. have you tried calling tech support? if you don't have any warranties just call dell and use someone elses product code (or something) cuz that's what they require in order to give you help
