Hello everyone! Forgive me if this question has already been asked and answered, but I'm wondering if there is a simple way to convert a blu-ray disc to a single DVD. I know that after ripping, the files would have to be compressed in order to fit on a DVD, causing a loss in quality, but I am okay with this. I just want to be able to back up the blu-rays to dvd so that I may be able to watch them in other rooms of the house and on trips where I only have DVD players. Blu-ray players are still a little too expensive to replace all my DVD players. I have anydvd hd and all of the other programs neccessary for backing up DVDs, but I'm not sure if they will help me in the task that I am trying to achieve. If anyone can give me some good advice or point me in the right direction via guides or threads, the help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Carl
Sorry to repost, but does anyone have any info on this topic. If it can't be done someone please let me know so that I do not waste my time trying. Thanks! Carl

Did you actually read his post properly? Please re-read the statement below... If you are referring to the mini BD discs (BD-5/BD-9/AVCHD) that I think you are (which is actually off topic as the OP was asking about converting to standard DVD format) then most of the modern Blu-ray Players have no problem playing these. No, he doesn't need that as he wants to convert Blu-ray to regular DVD, not recompress it to a mini BD as mentioned above. carlvo, there are quite a few methods to do this. I will provide basic advice below. If you still need more help, please ask. 1) Rip BD to Hard Drive with AnyDVD-HD. 2) Open M2TS (main movie) file with a DVD encoding application like TMPGEnc 4.0, Nero Vision etc. If you would like to use a higher quality encoder like Cinema Craft Encoder, then you will need to frameserve with AVISynth. 4) Author DVD compliant MPEG2 file with DVD Authoring software (TMPG, Nero, Corel, Cyberlink all have various applications available). 5) Burn to disc.
it can be done, its not that hard, but can be very time consuming if you don't have a powerful pc, (i have 1gb ram and pent 4 3.2) it took me 3days! basically you are rebuilding the movie and you can chose to what standard you want it. i.e dvd, dvd9, bd-25. to start off with you first need to get the movie onto your hd, using anydvd HD. then to make things easier although you don't HAVE to you can use a program called TsMuxer, this allows you take out the extra stuff you don't need like foreign language or even hd audio if you dont need it, this will bring the movie down form say 40gb to around the 25gb mark. once you have done this and understand using TsMuxer you then output it again to your hd and you will have a bd movie at the lower gb size. what i have just said is optional but doing this will ensure a better quality rebuild as it has less to rebuild. This part is how to rebuild, in a nut shell, you select your br movie folder and chose in the options what you want it to fit, i.e dvd9 which i have heard people say they have seen no difference in quality, it will be a blu-ray but on a dvd9 (and will only play in blu-ray players), although i remain skeptical, what took me 3 hours was rebuilding a 26.6gb movie to a 25gb movie as im backing my movies onto a blu-ray movie. any way here is a link on how to do it and what is needed. http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=143716 it sounds a bit complicated but it is quite easy, take 1 step at a time and make sure you fully understand it before moving on to the next step.
okay just read the rest of your post and see that you want them to play them on a dvd player, what i said will only work on blu-ray players, never mind, its there anyway if you ever want to back up blu-ray movies onto a dvd.
Thanks Ryu77 and everyone for your help. I am going to give this a try and see how it comes out. If I run into any problems or have any more questions I will let you know! Thanks again! Carl
Ryu77, I have Nero on my computer. How do I go about opening the main movie file with Nero, and once I have it opened, what do I need to do next? Sorry I'm just a little confused with the process...
