    hi guys
i have a couple of video files that accumulate 1400MB each.....they both have lengths approx to 2:30 hrs
now is there a way to compress the file to 700-800MB without much quality loss

Depends on how you define "much quality loss". 2CD rips tend to have 5.1 AC3 audio, if you want to keep that then there is probably 400MB's right there.

Celtic_d is right. If you want just regular 128 KB/s VBR mp3 audio then you can compress it down to about 1 GB without any noticable loss in the quality of the video.
