compressing

before i put my files into avi2dvd to convert
them i put them in virtualdub to append both
havles into one new file. but after that the file
is as big as both of them on one, how can i reduce
the size back to 700mb instead of 1.4 gb?

 

I've never used Avi2DVD but the file size isn't the determining factor but the runtime of the file. The Bitrate used to encode the file has to be lowered to fit the larger file on 1 DVD5 unless you encode to a DVD9. Bitrate x Runtime = Output File Size Regardless of what size file you have, the runtime is the same.

Don't know that you can in Avi2DVD, just selecting 4.7 should allow Avi2DVD to encode to that size for you but the quality will be less. bitrate = quality but necver greater than the original. Some encoders can have the bitrate adjusted manually so that the encoded file fits.
