Hello everyone I wonder if anyone can shed some light on why people say that employers don't care if you have a comptia A+ certificate or not? I thought that it would show that aperson has a certain amount of knowledge to do a pc tech job at that level. I know experience counts for alot but if a person has experience, builds their own computers at home, and has the comptia A+ wouldn't that be a good ground to give them a job in IT. I started this thread as I keep seeing on the internet people saying the comptia A+ doesn't count for much. I am interested in what you think about this.
CompTIA A+® Certification CompTIA A+ certification validates the knowledge and skills of entry-level computer service technicians. It is an international, vendor-neutral certification recognized by major hardware and software vendors, distributors and resellers. CompTIA A+ confirms a technician's ability to perform tasks such as installation, configuration, diagnosing, preventive maintenance and basic networking. A CompTIA A+ credential is the perfect entry into an IT career, and business owners who employ CompTIA A+ certified technicians notice an increase in revenue, customer satisfaction and employee retention. In fact, CompTIA A+ is part of the certification track for corporations such as Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, Cisco and Novell. Other technology companies including CompuCom and Ricoh have made CompTIA A+ certification mandatory for their service technicians. CompTIA A+® Authorized Service Centers If your technicians are CompTIA A+ certified, you may qualify as a CompTIA A+ Authorized Service Center. This distinctive title allows your company to advertise your dedication to customer service. The CompTIA ASC program logo ensures a customer that the business owner and employees take pride in their work and are interested in advancing the skill level and quality of their operations. http://certification.comptia.org/a/default.aspx
you can have a certification & still have no knowledge. a friend of mine ran into that problem when he was running a computer store & had a guy with his certification but no knowledge. i don't think that guy lasted long there.
I am doing this course, comptia A+ and it is teaching me alot of technical stuff. I have been building computers at home and I find the course good for the technical side, ie networking and drive addressing. If someone passed the exam without any knowledge I don't understand how he or she passed. It must be better for an employer to employ someone who has studdied the course properly and gained that knowledge. I know of a technician who works in a college that didn't know where the north or south bridge was on a motherboard. He has an A level in computing but didn't seem to know the technical side of things.
