Like most of my fellow afterdawn ,com friends atleast the USA ones ! I shop price as well as product ! So I have shopped and or bought at most of the computer/consumer electronic retailers ! Best BUY , OfficeDepot , CircuiyCity ,Compusa , & even Wallyworld ! So when it came time to get me a Xmas Present I decided I should get a New & bigger HDD ( Hitachi 400GB desktar ) Compusa had them onsale with a $40.00 rebate so my final price woould be about $200.00+ Tax I purchased that drive on 11/21/2005 but due to the holidays & Other reasons I did'nt get to insatll my new HDD until 01/16/2006 at which time I found out that said HDD was D.O.A right out da' box ! ain't that a swift kick in the pants ! I thought perhaps I had hooked it up incorrectly so I brought it to a friend who builds computer & he tried iout in his and the drive would not show up in his computer either! Well having my receipts I returned it to Compusa while on a trip to New Orleans ! the store is right off I-10 ! I presented myself and the dead HDD at the customer service desk and at first the associate ( Punk Kid!) said just go grab another one HDD off the shelf ! needless to say they did'nt ahve anymore Hitachi 400Gb HDD's left but they did have one seagate 400GB drive so I asked could I get that instead ? and the Associate says !" you have to pay the difference the seagte cost more than the drive you bought !" I was prepared to due this when the associate says Oh ! you don't have the UPC on the box we can't help you ! I explained that sending in the upc Code off the box was requiored to get the rebate so that's what I did ! Again " we can't help you" "I reply that's Bull**** ! " You sell a product with a rebate so people will buy it and if they comply with the requirements for the rebate You won't exchnge the product which you sold , which is still in warranty , & which is deffective from the word go ! He goes on again wioth the Compusa Mantra WE can't help you ! But I'll take to my manager & he disapers & comes back about three minutes later with the same speech but claiming the manager said so this Time ! Then feigning concern he adds tapping on the hard drive box you can returtn it to hitachi and they'sllsend you another one ! yes But I have to pay shipping atleast to hitachi 's hq ! Seeing I was having a wwr of wits with a idiot I left and told the customer service clerk Well buddy Compusa just lost a cuatomer for life & Oh ! Yeah! Tell That TO your Manager ! You all can shop wherever you want but if you choose to shop Compusa you do so at your own risk & BEWARE of their assinine return policy ! As for me I will never shop them (COMPUSA ) AGAIN ! I have RMA'd the HDD to Hitachi & also Emailed COmpusa a letter of complaint about this & as of yet they have'nt had the stones to reply ! CAVEAT EMPTOR ! let the buyer beware ! Especially at COMPUSA ! Peace Out!
Once CompUSA was one of my favorite stores, but like you mentioned, there return policy is terrible. I do believe they made some changes to it but not enough to warrant any major purchases. Like you, the ONLY time I shop there is if I have to have it right now such as a case fan for a friend, and in the last two years, that was the only item I purchased. Newegg.com gets my business for the most part, followed by a few other online outlets.
