    hey,

as the thread says, my computer freezes up when i try to do something within my documents and its sub folders (not all the time but most)
i ran a virus check and various adware/spyware/malware progs.

    none of them found anything.

do you guys have any idea what this is??//

i was told by someone to channge to detail view rather than thumbnail view. he said it might stop the freezes but no.

to make myself clear on my meaning of freezes. it stops responding i have to Ctrl, Alt del. and end task

    thanks for the help

i got this a lot recently when my downloads folder was too full. just accessing the folder in windows explorer would cause the CPU to go into major overload, the hard disc would thrash like mad, then eventually i could get at the files in there. This all stopped when i cleared the folder and (underlying folders) right down. Thumbnail mode was the biggest offender though normal detail view was still very bad.

Further checking found that my problem was due to my virus checker (Mcafee) scanning the folder like mad whenever i accessed it due to the folder(s) being sooooo huge.

As i say, clearing the folder right down stopped this behaviour for me.
