I've been using this burner for years and I think it has just gone bad but I'm not sure if I'm going to have to buy a new one or if I'll be able to fix it. First of all I found an old thread here and followed directions about checking for update driver in device manager but came up with nothing (I have windows xp) I downloaded samsung odd firmware Live Update but it says it's not compatible, after doing windows file protection (run: sfc.exe / scannow) it says "files that are required for windows to run properly must be copied to DLL cache. Insert windows xp cd"...Clicked on more info:"possible reasons for problem -You inserted wrong cd (different windows product cd than version installed; -the cd-rom in system isn't functioning" So after reading this my problem is if I can find the right windows xp I have in my computer right now it won't work anyways because the computer won't even know the cd is in there. Some other things to mention is that the cd drive is showing up in my computer, the thing sounded bad the last few times I was using to burn stuff (it sounded loud and it sounded like it was pushing itself to go) the green light still comes on when I put in a cd and it's spinning because the cd is in diff position when I open it. I also read something about installing nero fixed the problem for some but I just uninstalled nero a few months ago because I was running out of space and I know now it won't fit which also brings me to why I haven't done a system restore (system restore's off because it says not enough space on computer) I really want to reformat my computer but I won't be able to until I copy a couple files I have on my computer that are too big to backup online so I don't want to have to do that until I can fix this or I was thinking about checking out some external dvd burners but I'd have to check them out first. I hope it's something I can fix. I even popped in one of those lens cleaning cd's in there but the instructions say it has to run in order to work! I can't find drivers for it online and I don't know what to do. I really don't know if I could take it apart and do something with it but I'd rather not because I'd have no idea at all what I'd be looking at! I hope I don't sound too bad and sorry post is so long, I just want to say thanks in advance for any suggestions you could give me.
Yea, you're right, that's how my brain was feeling after staying up all night trying to figure out what's wrong with the dvd burner. Sorry about that. To sum it all up I have a TssCorp dvd burner that isn't working right in windows xp. The drive itself is showing up on the computer but when I put in a disk it's not reading it. When I click on disk info in Nero it says there's no disk in the drive. I can click eject in it and it opens it so I know the burner itself is being detected but the cd's or dvd's are not. It seems like this is a common problem and I'm wondering if there's a common way to fix something like this, even software or something. I have no idea so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
