when i turn on the computer, the windows xp window comes up (where it loads) and then its followed by a blank screen. in 2 seconds, the windows xp window reappears. It keeps doin the same thing. My computer is not booting.

is there any way to fix this without having to format my computer?

    thanx in advance

Everthing else i have backed up. i am not a computer expert thats why i dunt want to mess with the ram sticks and stuff.

put bad drive into other computer in place of rom drives temporarily so you can pull off what files you need. or if drive is fat32 format & file can go onto a floppy disk & you know were the file is than use a win9x boot disk so can access drive for that file.

You could try and press F8 during bootup and then select 'saf mode', if it'll boot in safe mode you then have access to your files.

But as ddp suggested, if you have everything backed up anyway and just want the files, then put it in another comp.

You maybe able to fix the issue within safe mode by running some virus scans, or uninstalling the Graphics adapter and see if it cures the problem...........

i couldnt run it in safe mode either because it kept on restarting. i tried to hook the tower up to another monitor and it said that "signal not detected" after the windows xp load screen and then restarted. I couldnt get the file any way. I really need to get this computer working. i have to do skool work. I need to know wut the problem is. I have no idea why it isnt working because it was working the night before and all of a sudden the next day its not working.

    help, thanks

try what suggested about the ram, 1 way of getting experience is by hands on. as the computer keeps rebooting you don't really have a choice besides taking it in to get fixed & pay for it & our advice is free

& neither do we as it can be anything like bad ram, cpu, motherboard, psu or whatever so you will have to be our eyes & hands as we try different things to isolate the problem. check the can shaped objects which are a type of capacitor on your motherboard to see if all are flat topped & not domed!!

It's like you feel dizzy and you ask your doctor what's wrong with you...it can be several things, not just one! Your Doctor will walk you through many questions and tests before he gives you an answer.

Did you just load a new driver for your graphics card or other device in your PC?

Did you pull spam or a virus from the internet or someone else's files?

Did your OS software develop a glitch from a power surge or corrupt file?

Did a memory stick go bad?

Trust me, the list can go on and on, so either try one suggestion at a time, or send it to a PC shop, your choice!

Well, if all else fails.....and you cannot catergorically prove it is a hardware issue,ie look into the suggestions so far (domed caps/bad ram/all cards seated correctly) this a 'final straw' and I take no responsibility should anything go wrong.

Load in your XP disc, and do a 'repair' instead of a reinstall, this should overwrite any bad startup corruption you may have.
This is should keep all other files intact, however as I said, if it is not a hardware problem, it may just get you back on track..............

If you do decide to do this, do not select the recovery console, go like you are reinstalling and repair it, but not via recovery console.

    Good luck..............
