plz somebody help! yesterday i installed new video card radeon x850xt instead of my old geforce 5700 so it worked fine, but today i was playin fo hella long about 3 hours so when i was playin oblivion my computer automatically turned off. but not the whole comp i guess,cos the computer itself was turned on (because green light was on) and i think some part of my computer just crashed and it caused the whole computer to shut down and then i couldnt turn on the comp (again green light was on but nuthin worked - like nuthin started - fans, video card). i even put old video card but still it is not working so i guess nuthin was wrong with video card? or no? bedcause as i noticed the left side of my new videocard is sitting good but the right is less then one cm higher (the yellow thing that is supposed to be in a slot) do anybody know what to do? what crashed? and how can i make it work? please please help! somebody
I'd suggest taking it to somebody, really. You might have fried your power supply, which is most likely, since nothing's turning on (fans, etc.) Also, if your card somehow popped, you might have shorted your MoBo, and fried that, which *could* mean you fried your chip and your RAM and everything attached to it too, but usually the chip fries first. Most likely, I'd say power supply, but...it's up in the air @ this point really. No chip fan spinning on power up usually means power supply or dead chip/mobo.
Well, lets see. He was playing for about 3 hours, then BAM! the machine dies. I'm guessing something failed due to heat related problems. You may have very well fried your CPU. If the pc turns on (green light on front) and you get no action on the fans or HDD, its either the CPU or the mobo. For your sake, I hope TomMelee is right and that it is a PSU, but I have my doubts on that one. Good luck. ~Rich
I was assuming it was the green light on the mobo itself that indicates it's still connected to a power source, I've seen those still light up after a PSU is fried. Basically, something cooked, it's just a matter of finding out what.
so i guess i'll take it to somebody i really hope that's psu the card didnt pop though but anyways i should take it repair computer shop. so thank u both i ll tell u what they said
same thing happen to my friend new card need a new psu there was not enouth power in to run eveything and int the end the psu burned out so i would say get a new psu but i would say a 500W or 550W u could pick a good one up for £30 of ebay thanx hope i can help
Can you swap out your PSU with another one? Might save you a trip to the repair shop. Mine died earlier in the week and replaced it with the same power output from another Dell, computer worked, so I ordered a bigger PSU from www.newegg.com, total cost only $89 for a top quality replacement unit, about what it would cost you to walk in the door of a repair shop.
If it is the psu stay away from the cheapies and no-name units.Invest in something descent and make sure it has enough power for the future(in case you ever do any upgrades)...Antec makes some good units Hope thats all that's wrong! Good luck.

You are not going to believe this but that is the unit I bought last year to replace the one in my Dimension 3000.The old Dell unit still works but 250W was not going to cut the cake after the upgrades I did.Anyway for a cheap psu it's still strong and stable...only wish that was what I paid, I got socked an extra $20.(still worth it)
Strange that we thought alike on that one. I figured 400 watts would cover 2 hard drives, two burners, a PIV 1.9 GHZ system.
Yeah,Mine is covering a P-4 Prescott 3.0,2hd's,2 burners,3 fans,an ATI all in wonder card and a Soundblaster 5.1 card...without even breaking a sweat,like I said for almost a year now and it's used daily. @davidhye,Sorry,I did'nt mean to hijack your thread.. hopefully this discussion has been benificial to you in some way.
it's ok thanx for the info though but unfortunately i didnt think about this much went to comp store they put thermaltake tr2 420W for 58$ nuthin good but it's ok plus my hard drive burned all of sudden so i ordered new one too.
