Hi people bear with me as i'm new, been copying a few things with nero and then converting a few things also with Nero. Been fine but then today when your converting the computer shuts down on its own, it has done it a few times and on different converts and i'm a bit lost and need something to convert some files. Please help.
Verify that the CPU is not overheating - to eliminate that possibility check the temperature while it's converting. http://www.majorgeeks.com/Hmonitor_d269.html
The only thing is that it doesn't do it on anything else at the moment, just Nero at the moment. The fan does seem to be working hard when i'm converting stuff and it does cut in and out alot.
If Nero is 'encoding', then it's cpu intensive; you can look at the Task Manager > Processes, tab to see how hard the CPU is running during the encoding.
No, when the CPU is running at 100% (which it will normally when working flat out) it generates maximum heat. The heat has to be dissipated. The fan moves the air over the heat-sink that surrounds the cpu. The heat sink collects dust and cat hair and cannot move the heat. If the cpu temp gets too high then it has to shut down to prevent damage.
Dusting off your CPU chip may help lower temps, as well as a good cleaning of the inside of your computer. A free temp monitoring program I have been using for a while is called SpeedFan 4.33 available here, shows CPU, HDD temps as well as fan speed. Kinda fun and useful at the same time in a Geeky sort of way.
