So I am curious as to what the running temps of a computer should be. I have a Q6600 overclocked to 3.2GHz. I have the Tuniq Tower 120 below half for its fan speed. I would like to know safe operating ranges for my computer so I don't cause damage to it. Here is where it is as it stands right now. So I set my comp back to default because when I ran the prime95 Blend test my computer crashed less than 2 minutes into it....Not sure if I was supposed to run that test or not. I set my overclock back to default which is 2.4GHz for my processor. I ran Prime95 again, this time on In-place large FFTs. Supposed to cause maximum heat, power consumption and some RAM. My Build is this. Keep in mind I only ran the Prime95 test for 10 minutes. See my reply in your thread here. If your overclock isn't stable then it will indeed crash pretty quickly running something like Prime95 (IIRC, blend test is a mix of CPU/RAM). Around 50 degrees on a stress test with Prime95 for your default clock is fine, probably means you're running normally at 35-40 degrees. Your cooler should be sufficient and I'm presuming you have a reasonably standard airflow going through your case. You don't really want to be getting any hotter than 65 on a stress test when you're overclocked. How far were you overclocking? From my limited reading, it seems you should be able to get to 3GHz with a small increase in voltage and still keep things stable. Might want to take a look at this and do some general reading around.
Sorry, I see you mentioned your original overclock in the OP. Did you do any stress testing initially when you first built the PC to test stability at higher temperatures/strain? I'm not entirely sure what the problem is - your PC is running at safe temperatures at standard clock speed, your overclock was running fine (?) until you put it through some actual testing and found it overheats/crashes? What are you trying to achieve? I mean technically processors can operate up to 100+ degrees but that's obviously not a safe operating temperature for any sort of daily use.
