    Hi
I did a system restore..then re installed Nero 6.6.0.18.Went on the NeroInfoTool and noticed that only the Ahead aspis were installed and not the system ones.Anyway I burnt a couple of dvds......scanned and played ok.Installed a few other programs...Shrink,Decrypter,Messenger,Rebuilder(inc.CCE and Avisynth),QSuite and KProbe. When i next checked NeroInfoTool the system aspis WERE installed. My question is..are the system aspis actually needed for copying/ripping/burning or is it ok to just go with the Nero ones and put the system ones in a folder tucked away somewhere in case needed?.Did one of the above programs install the aspis because IT (the program) needs them? If so any ideas which one(s) so I can be forewarned and not waste time/discs.
    Thanks in advance
    John

That's all I have ever used. I never seemed to need anything else. This is what I have for aspi:

    ASPI Information
    ----------------
System ASPI : ASPI is not installed

Nero ASPI : ASPI is installed and working properly

    wnaspi32.dll : 2.0.1.74 164112 bytes November 02, 2004

I have pretty much the same programs as you listed other than Rebuilder.

I think it would be a good idea to leave things as they are if everything is working OK for you.

Howzit going Frank? How's the Gixxer?
Yes, ASPI is a legacy program from 16-bit days. It is a packet interface, if I can over-simplify, because CDs have their own file system and it is not unlike the transfer of packets through a NIC card.
The true 32-bit OS's ie. WinNT (Win2K, WinXP) can use the Native NT SCSI Library to control device access.
Older software from back 'in the days' might still require a traditional (Adaptec) ASPI layer, though.
    Things were simpler then.

    Howdy Ogs,
I think the battery is about dead. It's rained pretty much every day since Christmas. I have not been getting much riding in.
I'm heading for California in two weeks for some dune riding. Should be fun.
Thanks for the ASPI info! I don't know much about it. Now I know a bit more!
