HI All! I have been trying to update Nero 8 ultra edition, through the update button in Control centre but when it starts to check it responds with a Microsoft error. I checked Windows firewall and it's not blocking Nero from searching or downloading so there must be a problem at Nero web site.
I thought about downloading through there update page, which shows current version at 8.3.6.0 and 188 MB file size which is big when your still stuck on dial up.
I see the trial version is the same number and size as the update,
so I was wondering if someone could explain why they are identical?.
I don't want to spend hours on end downloading for a patch only to find I've got a trail version. Any help always appreciated CHEERS!

The trial version is the same as the update. It will find your current serial number and install itself accordingly. I have no idea how long it would take to download over dial up and would hesitate to do so unless you are having problems with your partiular version of Nero 8, IMHO the updates are minor and not really noticable unless you are having bugs and the update address that bug.
Second option, find a friend who has a high speed connection and download to their computer and burn it to a disk.

blivet read my mind, find a friend-but I would give the update some time to be out before actually upgrading. if your stable, you might want to wait on it. Nero is famous for buggy versions.

Thank You BivetNC for your reply.! It seems strange to me that a patch should be wrapped in a Trail Vesion,
I can't think of any other company that does this to there software. Surely a dedicated patch would reduce the overall size of the down load making it much more user freindly, or is that asking to much of the tech guys at NERO?.
I'll wait and see if others report anything good about the update before downloading. CHEERS!

A bit of history about Nero,
When version 7.0 came out, the download was about 100 megs, now the file size is almost 200 megs. This thing is getting huge. Nero tries to be too many things at once and the file size issue is the end result.
Nero has been posting the "Trial" version as an update since 7.0.0.0, and no one seems to know why, even though it is the same program, the difference being the downloaded program has a time limit serial number preinstalled within which is replaced during installation by your permanent serial number. I hope this helps.
