I've got several high-quality AVIs (Divx, Xvid) that I am looking at converting to DVD, and I think I've ready every possible guide on Videohelp, Doom9, KVCD.net, and AfterDawn. But it seems like every guide or forum post I read has something different. The AVIs are 640x480 or 512x384 22-min long TV episodes. I'm trying to put the episodes on a DVD with menus. Generally, I thought about putting 11 episodes on a single DVD (roughly 4 hours), but I'm worried that the bitrate would be too low if I wanted to use 704x480 or 720x480 resolution. Taking into account overhead for menus, etc, this is what I am working towards: 7 episodes on a DVD @ 160/192kbps audio --> ~3600kbps bitrate avg 11 episodes on a DVD @ 160/192kpbs audio --> ~2400kbps bitrate avg Now, given those average bitrate values, what optimal resolution would you use? I'm thinking 704x480/720x480 for the 3600kbps, and 352x480 for the 2400 kbps.
I would Suggest you use the Half D1 Resolution (352+480) when Trying to put more than 2.5 hours on a Single DVD-R..... And when Trying to put more than 4 hours on a DVD I would suggest you use the CIF/SIF Resolution (352+240)..... If you try to put 4 hours of Video at 720+480 on a DVD the Quality will not be of acceptable quality because of the Low Bitrate..... Cheers
