I use DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink to burn DVDs and while burning Freddy vs. Jason Disc 1, I came across this error: I/O Error! Device: [1:0:0] RICOH DVD+RW MP5240A 1.11 (F ScsiStatus: 0x02 Interpretation: Check Condition CDB: 28 00 00 0D 6D 30 00 00 01 00 Interpretation: Read (10) - Sector: 879920 Sense Area: F0 00 03 00 0D 6D 30 0C 00 00 00 00 15 80 00 00 00 00 00 01 00 Interpretation: Unknown (Positioning Error) What does it mean? How do I deal with this? Do I abort, retry or ignore? Any help is appreciated.
It means your drive cannot read part of the disc due to damage. You can try to clean the disc and try again but your chance of success is slim unfortunately. Also you do not need to use Decrypter with DVD Shrink.
I have been under the impression that dvdshrink does not have the capablitiy to burn. Decryptor is needed to burn the dvd. There is a setting in shrink that you click to enable burning with DVD Decryptor. The burn process seems like shrink does the whole thing when actually, decryptor is doing the burning.
Don't know where you got that from. DVD Shrink is designed to burn with Nero, not Decrypter. I suggest you take a look at the settings in Shrink. There is no point in using a seperate ripping tool when DVD Shrink does everything in one go. Infact using Decrypter first can often cause problems when it comes to loading the files into Shrink.
You are correct. Shrink first is the way to do it and it is designed to work with Nero. I am quite new to this myself and it was through this forum that I was given instructions on burning. Here's the thread where it was explained to me. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/84078 I have successfully burned many dvds using shrink, which automatically interfaces into decryptor, which burns the dvd. There are a lot of other threads on this website where people insist that shrink does all the work, but it only appears that away.
my lil 2 cents. Shrink does not burn (alone). Discmania you are correct it does burn with Nero, but is Nero's burning engine. And it will burn with DVDDecrypter. Shrink and Decrypter is a great alternative for those who don't want to buy Nero. Shrink will work with both, and the quality output is just as good. It's just a matter of changing some settings. I do use both Shrink w/Nero, and Shrink w/Decrypter. As a preference I do use the combo of Shrink and Decrypter more often.
Unknown (Positioning Error) Error Codes. http://www.infinadyne.com/ErrorCodes.html http://www.hpc2n.umu.se/doc/tsm/messages/anrcms53.htm Many error codes really don't tell you much and this one is the same. Most error codes related to burning have something to do with the blank media. It is probably telling you you need to use different media, better media, cleaner media or maybe a cleaner burner. Try different discs, better quality discs, maybe get a laser lens cleaner disc.
Hi David, Welcome to our little Club here at A/D - Error codes do indeed refer to many different things - In general most can be traced to your media - burning DVD's do in fact pose different problems, as this is perhaps the most difficult job your PC ever tackles - Memorex is a good example as media goes, figures as high as 50% coasters have been reported (One member bought a stack of 50 and got 23 good burns.), not what I would call an impressive record. 1. * Cheap media freezes, skips, stutters, pixelats, partially jams, may be rejected and lest we forget, our old standby, giving you the old just refuses to be recognized routine :-( Besides "Freezing", "skips" and pixelations, many times you’ll get a “Cyclic Redundancy error” or an "I/O error". This message can mean that your discs are scratched or dirty, it can also mean that your burner won’t accept your “cheap” media :-( Another problem which “pop’s up” is a “*Power Calibration Error”. This can stop you right in your tracks and most often is caused by, Yep, you guessed it, inexpensive media. *A “Power Calibration Error” can also be attributed to the Optical Components of a DVD Writer, though this isn’t usually the case. Trying to shut down your software and ejecting your DVD then restarting your program and re-inserting the same media recently cleaned has been known to help. Inexpensive media or even average media is great for text, Data, Spreadsheets, .Jpg and .Gif pictures and is good even for MP3 music BUT for DVD backups - BLAaaaaaT! It SUCKTH in an extremely Big-th way ! 2. A good grade media is needed for DVD reproduction ! “Branded” Ritek G04's or Branded Verbatim are what we’re looking for OR any media boasting “Advanced AZO Metal Dye”, this indicates a superior dye application, while they are sometimes a bit “pricey” they are acceptable. Prices online from Meritline.com have gotten Ritek G04 down below a dollar a disc - Question - If you make coasters out of 3 cheap or even average discs and good copies from 3 Branded Verbatim discs or 3 “Branded” Ritek G04 discs - which ones then will you say are too expensive ? The 3 “Cheapo’s with no movie backup OR , the 3 recommended discs with a perfect backup on each disc ? Bear in mind, Memorex, Fuji, Sony, TDK, Orange Pack and others are quite good for your MP3 music, picture archives, Spread sheets, Data and your text backups and archives, they just don’t work well for DVD backups. Even DataSafe G04’s made by Ritek have been reported as inferior quality and are evoking that “Oh no, I shouldn’t have gotten those.”. Remember, for DVD backups, purchasing inexpensive media or even average media is a gamble, some people win, the majority of people lose, varying amounts but, they still lose :-( Let's try the right media for the job - just buy a 5 pack of what we recommend that will settle it once and for all - Don’t cheat though, buy the EXACT media we recommended - Using good grade media can guarantee you one thing to an absolute certainty, it surely cannot hurt. cheers, Pete Point of Fact The new DVD Shrink 3.1.7 is designed to use either Nero OR DVD Decrypter to burn to blank DVD discs. The new DVD Shrink 3.1.7 is set to burn either your VIDEO_TS folder (Holding your IFO’s, BUP’s and VOB’s) to disc OR to burn an ISO image (via DVD Decrypter) to disc. The recommended procedure is to open and process with DVD Shrink except for that rare exception where DVD Shrink fails to rip the DVD then, and only then is it recommended to use DVD Decrypter in either the “File” mode OR the “ISO read” mode to rip to your HD.
