I know some may say that's not hard but I do have a question regarding the buring process.

In this section I have read many times that the process people use to back up and burn a DVD is
    1. Rip (eg. smartripper)
    2. Compile/compress (eg.DVD Shrink)
    3. Burn (eg. Nero)

I tried this but smart-ripper decoded it into the incorrect format for DVD Shrink to use.

I tried using just DVD shrink without using smart ripper. I did that, it compressed my back up to 4.4GB, then burned it and it worked fine. Is there something that I need to be careful of as I am concerned that by not decoding it I have done something wrong.

You have not done anything wrong as DVDShrink is a ripper and de-coder/re-encoder combined. If you notice at the start when the disc is identified the option to re-encode is ussually highlighted so when you click 'next' you have instructed it to re-encode.

Thanks for that was a bit worried about that. cool. The only question is why do people recommend to use DVDecrypter and DVD shrink together?
