I'm not sure if this is the place to ask, but here we go.

Like the topic says, I'm trying to connect my Inspiron 1525 to my new Philips HDTV through an HDMI cable. It's worked a few times before after a couple of tries and restarting, but recently every time I go into graphics options and switch to external monitor, the laptop screen will flash a bit, go black, and picture will ultimately return to the laptop monitor. The option to switch to an external monitor is then gone, and won't come back unless I restart the laptop and try again.

Any tips? I can't find anything for this online anywhere else, so I'd be really happy if someone could help me.

What resolution are you trying to set and what is the maximum resolution of the TV?

Most likely you are trying to set a resolution that is beyond the capabilities of the TV.

Try setting the PC to 640 x 480 and work up from there.
