I have a compaq presario cq61-319wm. It doesn't have a hdmi port and I'm trying to connect it to a tv that doesnt have a vga input. Is it possible to use a vga to composite or component cable to connect them? Just wanted to see if anyone knew whether this would work before I bought the cables. Thanks.
Does your laptop have DVI, or just VGA? If it has DVI, you can use a DVI to HDMI adapter.....If you only have VGA, you could try a VGA to DVI adapter, then a DVI to HDMI cable.
have a look at this thread it has lots of good info. http://forums.afterdawn.com/t.cfm/f-59/live_football_via_broadband_to_tv-802375/ hope this helps.
Is this different than just connecting a vga to hmdi cable between the two? I tried that (vga to hdmi) and it didn't work.
Just want to be clear using the dvi adapter like you said. Would be the same as using a vga to hdmi cable?
Exactly. No difference, as far as I know. It's more of a "delaying the inevitable" thing, keeping it as vga for a little longer.
this link may help you understand the different cables and connections and what cables can be connected together using adaptors. http://www.geekwithlaptop.com/how-to-connect-laptop-to-tv .
