I have a problem. I started receiving a message that said it was from Microsoft. It said that my computer was infected by a virus and to click here (Body of message) to download Microsoft antivirus. I downloaded AVG free trial and now my control panel is gone. Also my system restore wont work. when I try to do a restore it says cannot restore to this time. Ive tried all of the restore points and its always the same. I have an original xp disc that I purchaed but when I had why compter wiped it cam back with xp professional so I cant use my disc. I attempted to download service pack 2 but it says I have to validate and since I dont have a code for the version on my system it wont let me. Someone please help....

    yunkdog,
If you have a XP-Home Edition CD w/ the serial # then install that version as you do not have a serial # for the Pro edition. Make sure you do a clean install and you format the HD

If your system will allow the installation of Kaspersky, install and run the trial, AV and Internet Security is what I use. I'm not saying Kaspersky is the best, just that it is good. (We don't need a discussion on "my AV ware is better than yours". Seems there's a lot of different opinions.) If your Windows is still not working properly and you're not up to reloading the OS, find someone who is.
