By using the advice that you all gave me recently I am now encoding and burning DVDs without any problems and have not had a coaster in the last 10 goes (Oops, that's done it!). The problem I have is with output quality. I use Nero Vision then Nero Burning ROM and if the movie is less than 1hr 45min then I get excellent quality, if the movie is 2hrs plus then quality is being lost compressing onto a single layer disk. The problem is even more apparent if its an action or CGI movie which I am told is down to the rapidly changing images etc eating up file size when compared to other movies. I am using Sony disks and burning at 6x (that's my lowest option). Can I use a double layer disk for these 'longer' movies to avoid having to compress as much or is it more of a problem than its worth and I should just put up with the quality loss and stick with the single layer disks?
My preference, if the length of the movie is not too great, is to select (at lower right of the Nero Vision window) the dvd size as DVD-9, then output to the hard drive and run the output through 'DVD Shrink'. http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd9_to_dvdr_with_dvd_shrink.cfm
