I have an old local TV show that I just got from someone on eBay. They gave me 70 DVDs, each containing one show. I was trying to find an easy way to convert them all to AVI's at once. I have copied the DVDs to their own folders on my HDD. Now I just need a program that will change them to AVIs. Even if it makes one huge AVi with the shows, that is ok too. Any Thoughts?
You can use a program such as autogk or handbrake, among others to convert the dvd files to avi's. But do remember, it will take quite a while to convert each dvd file to avi.
Some time since I used this so don't remember if it batch convert's but think it might, have a look: http://alltoavi.sourceforge.net/
This does the trick. The only problem I had was I had to specify the settings every time I added a new folder to the queue.
I can only suggest that whatever program you use allows you to choose a final file size so you can better fit finished files on DVDs. Not all do... and I believe Auto Gordian Knot does not. There's always Dr Divx... which is free (though the better DIVX codec is not. I think it's about $20.) and TMPGEnc which is around $100. Both batch and permit the choice of file sizes. Both also permit 2 passes for better compression... not all do.
