convert to mp3 files

can anyone help me??have a lot of music on my media player from cds.using up a lot of space.can i convert them into mp3 files to clear up space??

That's useful, can anyone tell me how to do this? I just want to make a audio convert myself, but I know little about audio codec, can you show me a simple example of the source code of a converter?
I have made a Video Player myself use VC++, and I want to learn more about audio & video codec, any links where can I learn such things is appreciate.
