Hi,I need some help.I have tons of old Vhs tapes that i would love to convert to dvd.I have a p4 3.0,2 gigs of ram, soundblaster audigy,150 gig harddrive and a Ati X800 pro video card w/s-video.I have no vcr but am planing on buying one maybe with a s-video out.I have no clue where to start this process and am open to all help. Can i just hook up a s-video vcr to my video card and get some software to encode it?Im not sure about the audio either i think it just has the 5 inputs red, orange, black, yellow and green. All help would be nice, thx
What I did was purchase a standalone DVD recorder. I connect the output from the VCR to the input of the DVD recorder. The alternative is a capture device in the pc. Hauppauge units are well regarded. http://www.videohelp.com/capturecards Some tapes have Macrovision protection which may prevent backing up. Some cards will ignore it others will honour it. I use an old Optex 'Video Stabilizer' to get around the problem. The benefit of a standalone unit is the process is one step from tape to disk. The PC card involves saving to the PC hard drive then authoring to disk. Some people have problems with the PC route.
