Here is the official Nero guide for converting your .avi to a DVD:

    ftp://ftp6.nero.com/Support_doc/PDF-Vision2/create-basicDVD-Movie.pdf

I recommend starting with a small clip and using a DVD-RW so you can try it a few times and erase any mistakes.

[bold]NEVER use Nero for movies' encoding. [/bold] Use any tutorial in http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/ . You'll avoid wasting plenty of DVD-R, saving much time.

    My personal suggestion:
NEVER make a 4,5 DVD movie from a 700 MB AVI. A general rule in movies encoding is: [bold]garbage in = garbage out[/bold], and you cannot expect a huge quality by making a 4.5 GB movie from a 0.7 GB movie. If you make a (S)VCD movie from that AVI and author a DVD containing multiple (S)VCD movies, the result will be the same, you'll make it faster, and you'll be able to fit 4-8 movies into a DVD!
Read http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/multiple_svcd_on_dvdr.cfm for multiple SVCD movies and http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/vcd_to_dvd-r.cfm for multiple VCD movies. Avoid AVI --> DVD conversions, and believe me, please.
