converting an old divX format to a newer format

    There are a few programs that for some reason will not playback divX files older than version 4.02. I'd like to convert these files into a newer format that these programs would recognize... is this possible?

    Possible, but very, very stupid. Re-encoding is required and it will produce awful picture quality.
