I just started to use Vuze http://www.vuze.com/

however the movie downloads are .avi files and are playable in my iMac using the built in player of Vuze ( i think ).

What Mac software do i require to convert those .avi files to Audio/Video_TS files to play them in my Samsung VR330 DVD player/recorder to watch on my TV screen ?

I had a little technical problem with BURN: it seems that Burn and my DVD driver did not jive. I will have to work on this one again.

iMovie did not accept the avi files when i drag/dropped the avi file into iMovie.

You can convert with burn, save the compilation to your hard drive and then try burning with something else? Not sure what is available for Mac...
