I have some large .avi files made with Fraps (Gspot says the codec is FPS/1) which I'd like to convert to a format that will give near same quality but reduce the size substantially as some of these are 2-4gb.

I was thinking that converting them to divx would be a good solution and tried using DivX Converter, but that couldn't handle the codecs.

Any suggestions on which software I should use? It doesn't have to be divx format as long as the quality is still good and a smaller size.

    Thanks for any help.

I was playing around with more software and came up with first using Virtual Dub, and then running that file through Windows Movie Maker and saving for 512 Broadband. The quality is quite good, sometimes better because of being able to increase the contrast from the original through the filters within VDub, and the size is about 10%, sometimess less, of what the original saved avi was. Time it takes to process isn't too bad either.

If anyone has any tips on improving this process, either for speed or quality, please let me know, always open to trying a better way.
