I'm using Divx Converter to convert VOBs to DIVX files. It works fine for the most part. Haven't had any problems on my laptop. Trying it on my desktop results in every once in awhile some VOBs are reported to be unsupported file formats. The same VOBs work on my laptop so my thought is that I'm missing some codec. Any hints?
I've had pretty good luck with AviDemux. Also lately I've been using AutoGK. Afa the codec you might want to try the one that comes with AutoGK it's XVID multithreaded. Also it's a good idea to install FFDShow. There's a guide on this site for installation and configuration. With FFDShow if you can play it on Windows then you can decode it. Many freeware encoders use it. Also SUPER is sort of an all in one converter but I usually try it if faster encoders won't do the job. Both AviDemux and AutoGK have features to automatically link all the vobs in a title set and encode to divx/avi
if you just have random videos on your computer that you want to convert, AlltoAvi is another good converter. http://jcafe.vnmanga.com/index.php/topic,1636.0.html If you rip the DVD first, I would also recommend FairUse Wizard, and excellent piece of software: http://www.dvd-guides.com/content/view/34/59/
