converting mp3 to aac

    First off i know that transcoding anything isn't recommend cause of it being lossy formats... But in order to save space on my hard drive i want to to convert some of my mp3 files at high bitrates >220 vbr to about 160 in aac format... I know that the aac format is of higher quality than mp3 at lower bitrates... So i was wondering if anyone knows of some good, fast, high quality converting programs...

    I've thought about using iTunes but don't like the fact that it writes the encoder information to the file so blatently and doesn't transfer the artwork and such...
