I just got my burner and am clueless when it comes to burning DVDs. I read in here that an mpeg file had to be converted to a DVD file to be able to burn it on a dvd. Just wondering what steps are needed after a movie has been downloaded off the net to the point where it can actually be burned onto a blank DVD. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

A movie will be perfectly readable by your DVD player only if it fits your TV system specifications (i.e. 720x480/576 NTSC/PAL plus the right framerate).
DVD Lab id able to author a DVD containing (S)VCD movies also
(352x240/288 for VCD and 480x480/576 for SVCD), but I'm uncertain if you can author a NTSC DVD full of PAL mpegs (totally unreadable? black and white screen? I don't know, sorry)..

If the mpeg movie doesn't comply the standard specifications above secribed: re-encode the movie, first; author the DVD then. This is what you do with AVI files as input, for instance.
