I have a subtitle with 2 files - a .sub and .idx but can't work how to use it with an .avi file.
I have a small program called sub2srt but can't get it to work - it's in a foreign language and no matter what I try, nothing happens.
Can someone please explain how to get the conversion done?
    Many thanks.

That program won't convert Vobsub/IDX files.

    The options are:
Find a .srt file at the likes of:
    http://divxsubtitles.net/page_subtitleinformation.php?ID=61385

Or OCR the subs with SubtitleCreator (a tedious affair).

Or, if you have a standalone DVD player that can play DivX files, use
AVIAddXSubs to add the subtitle stream to the video.
A new file will be created with the extension .divx
Your player may reject a file with that name - so add .avi to the end.
Note that these subs cannot be seen on the PC.

The process is very fast and the subtitles will be selectable with the remote.

There is a way to play these subs on the PC if divx is installed.
If you open the soft-subbed avi in WMP, a small divx icon will open
in the tray, bottom right. Right click and select subtitles.
