converting txt subtitles to srt with Subtitle Workshop

Hi,
I found here in AfterDawn forums that converting txt subtitles can be done with Subtitle Workshop. Well, I am using sometimes Subtitle Workshop 2.51, however I don't see there how to make such conversion. The only "Conversion" option I see there is in Tools menu "Batch convert", however, even there in "Output format" I don't see srt or sub.

To save as .srt, it's 'SubRip'

I understand that (at least in Subtitle Workshop) the name of srt is "SubRip". Is the name of sub "SubSonic" ?

'sub' is the extension for more than one file format.
Subsonic is one user.
You can see the names+extension when loading a file.

I am afraid I havn't express myself properly.

My problem was'nt how to know what's the extention of a file.

I wanted to join two srt subtitles. To make sure, the second part of the joined srt file would start on the proper timing-place, I wanted to use VobSub Joiner; and for that purpose I had to convert first the two srt files into sub files (VobSub Joiner joins only sub files). I know one can make such conversion by loading each srt file into Subtitle Workshop, choosing the "Save as" option and the selecting the desired format from the "Save as" window.
That's Why I wanted to know whether in my case I have to choose "SubSonic".

Vobsub uses sub/idx files - Subtitle Workshop doesn't output binary format.

You could do the joining and adjustment and save as a new .srt file then use SubtitleCreator to save as sub/idx.

I Subtitle Workshop, when I select "Save as", there appeares a "Save as" window, from which one can select the desired format. However, I don't see there any sub/idxformat.

My problem was similar to this thread title: converting a txt file onto srt.

I had this subtitle which I downloaded as srt. But when I loaded it onto Subtitle Workshop it displayed a message that "the file is a bad subtitle or an unsupported format".

I had already tried saving the text file inside and rename it, but I got the same message. How could I do it?

Two things:

1) The sub lines inside were preceded by this:

1
00:01:03,000 -> 00:01:03,500

but srt files had his shape:

1
00:01:03,000 --> 00:01:03,500

So I added another line to every arrow.

2) When you save the file on the text editor, save it as an .srt file.

That did it. Now SW recognized and opened the file.

 

I was not able to use subtitle workshop to change a text to a .srt. Subtitle Workshop says the text is an unsupported format.
How, then, can I use it to change the text into a .srt file.
Can anyone help me?
