Ok I have seen this subject here from about 2 years ago but nothing on it answers my problem so i am asking anyone that may have a solution to my problem to please help. I was using Convert X version 3.0.1 i dis-remember the rest and used it non stop for about 2 years with no difficulties what so ever. I then upgraded to VSO ConvertXtoDVD 3.5.3.139 which ran a few times till my computer started freezing up at random points during the conversion. I would change the order of the file until i have them all converted and the into VOB format and reload them again in to the program and they would burn fine. After about a week it would no longer burn even these, it would freeze up on everything no matter what. So I though it might be time for so spring cleaning so I wiped my hard-drive and redid my computer. After doing so I upgraded to ConvertXtoDVD.4.v4.0.10 I managed to burn 2 dvds with no problems then same problem started again. I got a bit aggravated and removed it from my computer and installed VSO ConvertXtoDVD 3.1.3.40 hoping to get a better result it no longer freezes but at random points I get an error msg saying that Convert X had a problem and must shut done I have a lot of home movies on my computer that I need to get off and send out to family, and am in a bit of a pickle here. Please if anyone has any answers or could even suggest a different program to try I would really appreciate it.
Try converting the files using FAVC -you can optionally burn the disk with the included 'ImgBurn' program.
I'm new. Having my own problems-looking to see if already posted anywhere. But my freeze up problems stopped when I added esternal hard drive
Kronicvir, hi. I was going to suggest a defrag of your hard drive might help or/and as jerico7 said another hard drive on which to store your movies. I use ConvertXtoDVD v4.1.2.336 and DVDFab Platinum 8.0.4.0 and both are fine. I'm using it on both WinXP Pro SP3 (32 Bit)and W7 Ultimate (64 Bit). A couple of questions:- What operating system do you use? What Processor(CPU) and how much RAM has your computer got in it? What is the make and model of your optic drive? What DVD Blank Media discs are you using? Most helpful would be the error code for the error message you get saying that ConvertX has a problem and must shut down: is this a message saying Windows Explorer has a problem and must close or is it from the ConvertX program itself? More information on the error can be got from Event Viewer ( Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer). In the Event Viewer window double-click the Application choice. If you have just used ConvertX it will show there marked in red at the top of the listed events. Have a look and see what it says....you can click the blue URL to go to MS for advice on the error. The problem could be a faulty VSO installation, a conflicting driver issue, insufficient RAM,failing hard drive, bad sectors on the hard drive.....quite a number of possibilities really. Post back more info please You could also try attar's suggestion to use FAVC and let us know how that goes. Perhaps also try these DVD Decrypter or Shrink 3.2 to rip and ImageBurn to send the rips to disc. Simply as a means of eliminating the good and being left with a pointer to the bad. Post back and good luck I just did a quick search on the net for ConvertX to DVD freezing and got this page http://search.yahoo.com/search?ei=utf-8&fr=slv1-msgr&p=convertx to dvd freezing&type= which among many hits gives a good one at this page http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/493919 its an older AfterDawn thread on the subject and has some good pointers
I really appreciate the replies but i found my problem and am running fine once again. For anyone who just cant figure this same problem out, if you are running an older computer as I am BE SURE TO CHECK YOU PROCESSOR!!!!! My problem was that my processor was running at 99% for the hour it took to convert, and my heat sink was so clogged with dirt that it was over heating I cleaned my heatsink and added some new thermal compound and have been perfect since. Again thank you all for trying to assist
