I've asked a few other questions in these forums, but since everyone has been really helpful in answering them, I have one more problem. And I hope I'm posting this in the right forum, lol. I've been looking for an easy, simple way to make dvd's. I don't need menus or anything, I just want my files to play on a standalone dvd player. I've gotten it to work a couple of times, but it will only work on my Playstation2 and it's a whole long complicated process. I had heard a lot of good things about the ConvertXtoDVD program, so I tried it out and it seemed perfect because I didn't have to use another program to switch .avi to .iso, but the dvd won't burn. The encoding goes fine as far as I can tell, and at the end it says "Operation Complete", but the dvd doesn't even start to burn before it is automatically ejected. I kept the dvd files and looked through the log file, and it looks like there were a few 'warnings'. It said "3 frames duplicated" once, and "1 frame duplicated" once, though I'm not sure if that means anything. But it also had these warnings: VIDEO_TS.IFO/BUP reallocated to keep DVD VIDEO structure compatibility Init DVD-R Packet: Can't set write parameters mode page. Code 05 26 00 [Illegal request, Invalid field in Parameter list] Init DVD-R SAO: Can't set write parameters mode page. Code 05 26 00 [Illegal request, Invalid field in Parameter list] Does anyone know if these are problems that can be fixed, or if I am doing something wrong and don't have the right settings? Or should I stick with using a few different programs to burn dvds? Thank you for your help!
Can this application save the output to a folder on the hard drive (as VOB files) which can later be used to burn a dvd with a program like Nero? I'm not knocking ConvertXtoDVD, I just don't think that 'all in one' applications are always the way to go. When I have this situation, I prefer to save the output and run DVDShrink to look at what I'm getting before risking a disk. If the files can be imported by Shrink, chances are they can be burned successfully to disk. DVDShrink (freeware) can link to DVD Decrypter (freeware) to burn your DVD. DVDShrink can also use Nero to burn your compilation (if you have Nero already installed on your PC) and as always, good media (Verbatim, Maxell,Ritek) should be your only choice.
Hi Actually in ConvertXtoDVD, the messages concerning 3 frames duplicated, this is about the conversion and are normal they have nothing to do with the burning part. To see your configurations used can you post your log file here? You will probalby find it here: C:\Documents and Settings\ "Your user name"\Application Data\Vso or what where your results if your tried to burn with another application? thanks
First let me say that this forum has gotten me through many tough situations and has taught me a lot. As such I wanted to see if I could help anyone else by becoming an active member. That said here goes: I use ConvertXtoDVD exclusively to convert .avi or .mpg to DVD and have been doing so for several months now. I've never had a problem with the conversion itself but have always had a problem with its burning. It's quite the circus actually with the cycle of software I use. Generally I take the .avi and convert it to DVD but I make sure in the options menu I have un-clicked the burn option. Then I use Nero 7 to burn the movie...of course I can't use Nero for music because it skips, have to use Roxio for that, but I digress... Did you know that ConvertXtoDVD can also be your region-switching tool if you have .avi of one region but want a DVD of the other? The menu is set to "automatic" by default (in options of course) but if you select NTSC the program will create a DVD structure accordingly even if the original file was PAL. I'm in the States so I would only assume it works the other way. Sorry to ramble so much in my first post
Hi, Have you ever tried to burn with Convertxtodvd? Why did you uncheck the burn after conversion box? are you using the latest version 2.0.13? thanks
Thank all of you so much!! I've finally worked it out using a mix of your suggestions. I successfully burned a dvd that will work on my standalone player using ConvertXtoDVD first to make the .avi into the dvd files. Then I used DVD Shrink to make the .ISO file, then used ImgBurn (which I had installed on my computer before) to burn the image to a dvd, and it worked! I know there are more efficient ways to do it, but this is the only way I have gotten it to work. I apparently have a really picky dvd burner, a Matsushita, so maybe that was part of the problem? I don't know, but thank you all so much!! This forum is really great~!
