Does anyone know how to back a dvd-r that has been burned using DVD Express. I lost the original of spy kids and need to find out a way to back it up using nero or does anyone know of any other tools i can use.
DVD Shrink (free) will probably do it for you !: ]-~ Guide : http://www.chrismccann.co.uk/dvd_shrink_3.htm
If your talking about making a backup of a backup.. You can simply drag and drop the files from the DVD to your hard drive somewhere and burn them again as a DVD video.. Matt
seeing as it is already a back up then it should be less than 4.3gb. when i had my eeerrrmmmm liaseon (disaster may be a better word) with dvdx express i found it encypted the dvd so you couldn't just copy it.though i'm not sure about this as it was a very confusing time. another (free) option for this would be DVD Decrypter (used in iso read then iso write mode.)
Viper6699's memory is correct. Dvd Express encrypted every back up I did(This was supposed to be a way to prevent rampant duplication of discs). This of course was before I found this wonderful site and was converted to the ways of DVD Shrink. If you have trouble with DVD Shrink or Dvd Decrypter, I know DVD43 will decode it. _X_X_X_X_X_[small]<(C:} Toshiba Satellite P4 HT 2.3 Ghz 1 Gb Ram Nec Nd-1300a External 0 to Burn in 17 Minutes <(C:}[/small]
Ok.. I am not sure about DVD Express.I haven't used it before. But I know for sure, if you used DVDshrink to make the backup, you can drag and drop your already backed up DVD to your hard drive. Then you can burn it as a DVD video again with no problems.. DVDshrink is definatly the way to go. I can't see why anyone would use anything else? It's free and does everything.. Matt
this is my first time using a forum and you guys have been very helpful. I will try this tonight and let you know how it works out.
hiya motomatt....the only reason i suggested Decrypter was that when i used express i found that shrink would not break the encryption that express had written onto the dvd. though i would agree with ya that shrink is the business.....i have also found one or two other titles that it could not break down so had to run it through decrypter before letting shrink loose on it. so although very nearly i dont think it is totally correct to say shrink will do anything......though it does come pretty damn close.
jedimex......one thing you will around these here parts is that there is no right or wrong answers.....only the end result. different people before different methods or software. but i think you have been given a few options to try. hope you have some success.......and welcome to the club
The only time X copy backups should give you problem is trying to copy again with X copy software. I use to copy the backups with Nero disc copy. The basic encryption is gone. The X copy watermark should only be a problem if you try it again with X copy. But as stated, everyones system is different and nothing is written in stone. You can try any of the disc copy part of programs like Nero, RecordNow, or Roxio and see if it works. Jerry
Viper6699, I agree with you and have heard several people claim the same thing.. I just haven't came across those certain DVD's it wont decrypt. Do you happen to remember which ones shrink didn't work with and what version of it you were using? sorta curious.. take it easy Matt
hiya matt...... have only had it about half a dozen times and i'm afraid the only one i can remember for sure was "lara croft.....cradle of life" i got shrink for the first time around feb of this year and upgraded about 2 weeks ago so it would have been the last (not present) version. cheers mate Dave (viper)
I copied the video_ts files to a folder on my hard drive. Then loaded the files into nero and burned it under dvdvideo. Had the movie in less than 15 minutes, watched it and it worked fine. Thanks for all you info it was very helpful, i will also try the dvd shrink.
