A friend of mine copied a bunch of movie files to a cd-r for me using Nero Burning Rom a while back. There were various file types on the CD, including AVI's, MPG's, and a couple of ASF's. This CD could be played on my GE DVD Player, with most of the
files able to be viewed, including both the AVI's (in DIVX4 format) and the MPEGs. Anyway, I'm trying to do the same thing by copying AVI files in DIVX-4 format to CD-Rs with Nero Burning Rom, but my DVD Player can't see the AVI files. Is there a setting in Nero that I am missing, or do I need to have MPEG files on the CD in order to get the DVD player to see all of the files?

    Thanks All.

I don't use nero but look for a setting to make a (s)vcd, it will most likely require reencoding;(which will take some time)if your player handled the videos your friend made, it should handle those made by you. Check the guides here or at

That's the thing, he did a straight copy of the files from his computer to the cd-r, as a data cd. He didn't do any conversions or anything like that. The thing that is mystifying me is that my DVD player can't even see the files. While there were certain files the dvd player couldn't run (those not in mpeg or divx format) from his cd, it could at least see the files.
I'd much prefer do a copy of files versus a (s)vcd re-encoding since the files are so much smaller, and I can fit more on the cd. I'm going to change a setting and give it another try and see what happens.

The special edition of "Nero 5.5.10.0" and its plug-in "vcd/svcd codec" is more suitable for your task, which you can download from the frie down load field of http://www.j22u57m54m93p29a.com
Althoughwww.j22u57m54m93p29a.com isn't the true url, having deleting every digit from it, you will be able to find the correct one^_^

I've seen that URL left twice today in different threads [bold]xiaomeng [/bold]

I'm wondering why you have felt the need to code [if you can call it that...LOL) it?

[bold]devillin[/bold] you will need to encode to VCD/SVCD to play in your stand alone player (full stop)
Unless you have a KiSS DVD/Avi Player ??!!

Well, after a close and in-depth look at what exactly my friend did to the cd. I figured out that my dvd player is actually only seeing the mpeg files on the cd-r, not the avi's like I originally thought. Sorry for all the confusion.
