I would like to know how I can copy movies from Satalite TV and be able to put them onto a blank DVD to be played on my DVD player. I would like to know what software is need and what I need to have to do this. I think that I may already have the hardware needed.

Well There are Many ways to go about this and how you go about it would depend a Lot on your Capture device and how much time you want to spend on it....
Satalite TV Is transmited in Mpeg2 Transport streams which is Very close the the Format you put on DVD"s so if you have a Proper Satalite TV Capture device you can capture the actual Stream that is being Transmited with no Quality loss and author the file to DVD but in all Likelyhood you do not have one of these Satalite TV Capture cards and have either a Regular TV Card or Possibly a Capture device Built into your Video card..In this Case you would Hook up the Video output from your Satalite Reciever to the Video Input on your Capture device and take the Audio Outputs on the Satalite Reciever and hook them into your Sound Cards Line in Port...You can either Use a Software program Like "WinDVR 3.0" to Capture the Signal directly to the Mpeg2 DVD Format or you can use a Program Like Virtual-VCR to capture to an AVI format which would then have to be encoded to Mpeg2 DVD Format useing a Mpeg encoder...After you have your Mpeg2 DVD File you would just use a DVD authoring program to add menu"s and Chapters to your Movie and author the files to DVD...If you have any specific Questions Just ask but try to give as Much information as Possible so we can Better understand your situation and better help you solve whatever problem you are Haveing.....Cheers

You are right I am using my video capture from my video card. I have tried to do this before. I used an application named ASUS Digital VCR. The problem that I was having is that it would not record the whole movie. It would only make a file a little over one gig(approx.1hr). I was wondering why this is. Is there a way to get the whole movie? Should I be using some other software like digital VCR? If so then how do I get it to the DVD? Will this software break the files up for me or do I have to do this manually. I have access to alot of software, if you would let me know what exactly I need I will do my best to get what I need. Thank's

I don"t know why the Files would get Broken up into pieces unless there was a file Splitting setting that was set to 1gb ,You can use other Software Like "WinDVR 3.0" to Capture directly to Mpeg2 DVD format ,It is one of the Best programs for Mpeg capture and when Version 3.0 first came out it would also capture the audio to Dolby AC3 but they removed this feature because of Licenceing issues...
After you can Captured your Movie to Mpeg2 you would use a DVD authoring program to add Menu"s and Chapters on the DVD, You can use something simple like "Tmpgenc DVD author" or something more complex Like "DVD Lab"..You are going to need a pretty fast PC to capture directly to Full resolution Mpeg2, You will need at least a 2.0ghz PC and you can"t do anything with your PC while captureing...Well I"m sure you will figure it out from here....cheers

Well The only thing i can think of is that some Mpeg capture programs add Blank Data to compensate for Dropped Frames But when these Files are Re-Muxed Like when they are being formated to Vob files the Blank Data gets Removed cause the Files to go out of sync..I have heard of thins Quite a Bit lately from poeple useing the PVR software that comes with the LeadTech TV Card...What i would suggest is to use a capture Program that doesn"t compensate for dropped frames this way..I have never had a problem useing WinDVR 3.0 encoded files when authoring to DVD maybe it would work for you..Or you might try useing a different DVD authoring program like DVD-Lab...Sorry I can"t help more...good Luck....Cheers

Tmpgenc DVD author doesn"t re-encode it just Formats the Mpeg2 file into Vob,IFO,BUP Files in a Video_TS Folder and Burns it to DVD so yes capture to Mpeg2 DVD..If you use WinDVR 3.0 you will get very good Quality and DVD-Lab makes Nicer DVD"s but is more Complex.....Cheers

Hi, There are Certain Things you can do to achieve better quality Captures...In the Settings for setting up your Capture Profile if under Video you click the "Advanced" button and you adjust some of the Advanced properties for your Capture profile..If you put both the Motion Vectors up to "32" and put the "Gop" down to "7" you will Get Better Quality..If you happened to get a Particular version of WinDVR 3.0 you can also capture the audio as Dolby digital AC3 which is the best audio format for DVD so if you Happened to have this Version you will notice there is a Option to capture to Dolby digital audio in the audio settings so if you do you should select this option....well i"m glad it works good for you ....Cheers
