Hello, I hope someone can help. Now that we are in the age of DVD and most no longer use VCR, I would like to copy my own (bought and purchased by me) video tapes to DVD. I can copy most tapes to my standalone DVD Recorder, but certain ones are copy protected. Is there a way I can get around this as I would like to make all my VCR collection into DVDs. Thanks in advance
you would need a video capture card in your pc then you can capture the video on your hdd and convert to dvd
Problem is phil, I use a laptop and I really wanted to transfer the VHS tape direct to my standalone DVD recorder then burn it from there
Hi angus999, Might be useful to you to check out this link http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/289648. I know there is a device you have to put in between the vcr and dvd to remove the protection or your other option as mentioned earlier is to use a capture card..run thru dvd rebuilder w/ cce for quality before burning to dvd. I am no expert but used the second method and worked for me. Just came to mind check this link http://forums.afterdawn.com/forum_view.cfm/79 as there are several topics covering vhs to dvd and yes there are references to copy protected vhs tapes.
Just an update fellas, I've managed to 'crack' the copy protection I went to ebay and purchased a 'copy protection remover' scart lead which has now enabled me to back up my VHS tapes to DVD. Sometimes the lead works straight off, another time it didn't work. By trial and error I found that by having the tape running, unplugging then re-plugging the scart lead made the DVD record I haven't a clue why, but it works. The lead cost £19.99 plus p+p. The seller (in case you want to search) is called extremeimport2. Hope I haven't broken any rules by informing you of the source and price. Cheers.
