First let me apologize for posting here, but this seems to be the best forum for Mac information. Video capturing from analog devices seems to be primarily PC solutions.

I have read and read, but I'm unclear on a few things. I hope to create DVD/VCD copies of the kids tapes for the summer trip. Old van had VCR, new van has DVD. Already aware of the probelm I may have with Disney tapes, will a video stabilizer solve this problem if the Macrovision overide has been removed from the ADVC-100 or is not sufficient? Will also be backing up Hi8 movies from Sony camcorder.

Using a Powerbook G4, 1Ghz, 512mb ram, 60 mb HDD, 120mb external firewire harddrive, ADVC-100 converter. Since I only have one firewire port, I am using a PCMCIA-firewire card to gain the second port. Any preference for which external device should be on which port?

Still unclear on the process of copying, and have not found a clear guide, faq, etc. Analog tape to AVI to MPEG-2, to DVD. Then burn to disc. Any links or info will be appreciated since I'm trying really hard to keep the new set of mirrored coasters to a minimum. Toast 6 seems to be the preferred sw for burning, which i do not have. Any other suggestions? Have Quicktime Pro, iMovie 4, iDVD 4. I think I need other software if the movie will exceed 2 hrs? Is that correct?

I have also noted there is a HUGE difference in media, which I have copied the preferred names. Alot to understand!! I've read so much that I think my head will explode, I hope it will make more sense once I get started, but I'm having a tough time figuring out how to get started, if that makes sense.

TIA for any and all replies.

Thanks, I'll try there. Once again, I apologize for the intrusion in my search for information. The inappropriateness of my post to this forum was obvious......the silence was deafening!!!!
