    Hi guys,
this is my first post here, but I've been reading your pearls of wisdom for quite a while.
Anyway, I have been successfully backing up my dvd's using Shrink, decrypter and Nero or Easy CD, but none of these programs have any success backing up my backup. Obviously I don't need to shrink it again, but does anyone know of a program that will help me do a straight copy from backup to new backup?

    Cheers,

    Chris

    Hi DVDchris,

You should be able to copy a backup with Shrink. What's the matter ?

Anyway, a disc-to-disc copy with Nero should do the job (as there is no need to decrypt or compress the source disc).

Yeah, that's what I thought, but it don't work!

I can take a dvd and use shrink to back it up to hard drive, then use Easy CD 6 to burn and everything is hunky dory, but if I then take the burnt copy and try and duplicate it, it just won't work. Shrink says it doesn't recognise the file types, and a straight copy with either Nero or Easy CD seems to run at 1x speed but then fails with write errors.

    Quite the conundrum...

    Cheers,

Are you kidding ? I'm sure Shrink can copy its own copies ([bold]I did it several times[/bold]). If you can't re-open the burnt disc with Shrink, then the problem comes from the burn.

I've never used Easy CD, but it seems it doesn't create the most compatible discs...

Run a test with Shrink + Nero: rip and compress a commercial DVD with Shrink then burn the VIDEO_TS folder with Nero (in DVD-video mode) then try to re-open the burnt disc with Shrink. It must work! And also you must be able to do a disc-to-disc copy with Nero using the burnt disc as source.

    hi dvdchris
I havent heard that easy creator 6 puts a watermark on its discs(but i wouldnt put anything past roxio)
Im surprised your nero even works with roxio on it.
My suggestion is to take out roxio and drive a stake through its evil heart and dont even say the word roxio near your computer again lol (just mho)
    good luck

Roxio causes more problems than its worth. Best to get it off your system and stick with Nero. What brand media are you using? Poor quality media along with Roxio as the burning program could cause many problems.

Ok, well, my laptop has Roxio, but my home PC has Nero.
I'm using either Verbatim DVD-R or Princo DVD-R. Does it make a difference because I'm burning it as a data disk?
    I ripped and burnt Being John Malcovich yesterday with shrink, no prob, and today I tried to copy it using CloneDVD2 as a test, and the error it came up with was;
    Processing stopped: missing title VOB file(s) named VTS_01_*.VOB (VobSet 8 1 0 18657 18826 18701 TCE)The file is definately on the disk..

I figure there's something basic I'm doing wrong, but a mate has tried decrypter and recode, shrink and Nero and is having similar issues..

    Thanks for your help chaps,

    Chris

    Hi DVDchris
If you back up your DVD with Shrink then save the file as an ISO file to be burnt with DVD Decrypter. Then burn as many copies from the ISO file as you need with DVD Decrypter.
I have used this method to burn copies of family videos many a time.
    I hope this helps

Verbatim media are usually very good. Princo I've heard both good and bad stories about. Seems to depend on the burner drive. Back to the burn problem. Forget about Roxio for now. Go into the settings of Shrink and set it to auto burn after the rip. You can use either Nero or Decrypter as the burn program. This will take any guess work out of the file setup since it will be done for you. Shrink will rip and decrypt and start to burn automatically when its ready. Files will be in the right place.

chthomson, the thing is, I didn't want to store the ISO's on my HDD. I've got over 300GB of HDD space, but I just want to be able to pull a backup out and re-duplicate that.

Jerry746, there's nowhere in Shrink that I can find that will enable an auto burn using Decrypter, and to use decrypter as the burn program do I need to create an ISO file? Because Decrypter won't accept the Video_TS folder, only single files...

    Cheers,

    Chris

    Yes there is DVDchris.
Use dvd shrink as you would normally, and when you click backup, the next window that pops up has a dropdown box. Where it says, select target device, choose iso disc image. That should bring up a place where it says launch dvd decrypter to burn output image.
    good luck

    Hi DVDchris
If your backup is good, why not create an ISO file of the disc and then burn the ISO. Nero and DVD Decrypter will make ISO (image) files of a disc you wish to copy. Once created it is easy to burn.
    I hope this helps
