I seem to be having problems ripping copied dvds to my computer. I'm using Decrypter to rip. It gets part way through and just dies... can't read it. I have no problems at all ripping proper dvds.

I'm thinking it may be cause the quality of the DVDs. They are cheapo brands. But my friends seem to have no worries and they are using decrypter also. Maybe it's the burner? It is a HP DVD Writer 300n... Any help would be appreciated...

Then you should have stated that. Do you have Nero or Roxio? both Nero and Roxio have a disc copy feature...this will do it.

Hi CaptainBJ, Sorry about the mis-understanding, we just have to watch what is discussed on here. Since this DVD is from a wedding it is not encrypted. Just use any disc copy program that will support DVD discs. Nero, RecordNow, or even Roxio should work. Insert your original, click copy complete disc, insert a blank when it tells you too and your done. No need to rip or decrypt. Use good quality blank media. If the wedding disc is defective, it may still give you problems. Make sure it is clean as possible. Good luck.

no worries guys. thanks for the advice. i will try with Nero - didn't even think of that! i'm fairly certain it's the cheapo blanks i'm ripping from though. I tried ripping from another copy that was done on a TDK disc and it works fine. I'm also having major playback problems with the cheapo ones too. Another thing is that my burner can only use DVD+R blanks. Do you think that cheapo +R discs are more temperamental that cheap -R discs???

If the disc still doesn't copy then drag the Video TS folder to the hard drive then burn with nero in Video file mode. Sometimes the files aren't arranged correctly.

It is possible that your DVD reader can't read the cheap disks properly. If you HP is the reader try to find a Firmware update that may correct the problem. Last try a different DVD reader.
