I have tried several programs to rip the DVD-R's I have made using Studio 8 or DVD Architect so I can make additional copies. I have tried SmartRipper and DVD Decrypter to rip them but it always stops after a few minutes and I get a read error. The discs play fine. I have also tried to just drag the contents of a disc to my hard drive but again I get an error. Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong? Could it be my firmware for my DVD-R/+R drive (TDK 440N)? Could it be my DVD-R's (Ritek)? I actually have to archive the VIDEO_TS folder on a DVD-R now just in case I need to make more copies. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. BTW, these are DVD's of things that I have captured, not copied from retail DVD's (if that makes any difference). Thanks, Bob
You should be able to go into your burning program(Nero or Roxio)and tell it to copy the disk if they are not encrypted. The disks might play fine but there could be 'Read Errors 'that caused DVDDecrypter to have problem. Try this program DVDinfoPro. It can tell you if you have any errors and it can also tell you who the Real Manuf. of your blank disk are among other things. addy: http://www.dvdinfopro.com/
If you can't copy the TS folder to your hard drive then you have some unreadable files. If the entire movie will play on your computer then you may be able to save all the files you can manually then use nero to burn what is left. There may be an error but you may still have a usable DVD. I have done this on some defective DVDs.
Out fo curiosity, why are we trying to rip an already ripped disc? I cant see why someone would rip a disc - copy it to DVD-R and then pay a fortune to CSS it. lol - of course im kidding - im trying to emphasise the fact that its is already ripped ;-) Plus, its illegal to make a back up of back up if we are talking about movies...
The disc was not originally ripped. I captured some old music Laserdiscs and created a DVD-R video compilation. I wanted to make a couple of copies for some friends but wasn't able to copy my original disc successfully. That's the reason for my question. Thanks for suggestions. I will try them out and report back if that's ok.
Perhaps MY terminology is off BUT... I consider a RIPPED disc to be a COPY of the original (which I can't do) - not the original itself. Therefore, my disc is not ripped - it's recorded or burned. At any rate, do you have a suggestion for copying the disc or are you going to just give me grief about copying it. Thanks.
If this is music and you can't copy it all to the hard drive then the music may not be recoverable. You might try a different DVD drive.
What you are not understanding that if the disc is on a DVD-R then there is no encryption on (unless the person who copied it paid a fortune to encrypt it???). Therefore, a simple copy and paste to the hard drive and burn, or copy disc will work....
It reads like he already tried a direct copy to the hard drive. Since that didn't work then the DVD has a defect. Hopefully he will confirm or deny this soon. "I have also tried to just drag the contents of a disc to my hard drive but again I get an error."
Correct... I have tried copying several different discs to the hard drive as well. This didn't work either. I get about 80 done and I get a read error. I have tried to make an ISO, tried to copy files using Smartripper and Decrypter, tried Roxio, tried Nero, and finally tried to just drag the contents to the HD. I know it has to be me or something with the discs but I sure can't figure it out. Thanks for all the help though.
If you can't copy the files to the hard drive then don't worry about ISOs or copy programs. Your problem is basic. The DVDs are no good or the drive is bad. I burned a 100 stack of memorex with CMC id. They burned fine but did noy read well. About 80% of them would read 60-70% then stop on the computer. Most would play through on my pioneer 333 but no other players. Those discs were unrecoverable. I have not had this problem yet any other discs. I have burn cheap and expensive with varied quality but could always get the data back off. But not those. _X_X_X_X_X_[small]Donald[/small]
Well... I finally got a disc to copy to my hard drive and then back to a DVD-R by dragging the contents to the HD then using Nero to burn. It must have been a crappy set of discs that I got or something. Hopefully, I will be able to continue copying now. Thanks for all the help though, I appreciate it.
