Hello, I'm having a great time copying my VHS movies and borrowed DVD movies to DVD with my iLO DVDRHD04. Thanks to this forum, the iLO has been excellent. My question is this. Is there any workaround that will allow me to copy a finalized commercial DVD movie as diskcopy-type method rather than the lengthy way I do it now by recording while I am actually playing the movie? I do have the hacked firmware, but is the only way to copy the faster way is to have a DVD burner on my computer? I have an opportunity to copy several DVD's, but it will take me many weeks to do so by recording while playing. If the answer is that I can only do it on my computer, I'm looking at a Samsung 16x Double-Layer DVD±RW Internal IDE Drive that is external to the computer. It probably isn't as good quality as Sony, but I'm having to work on a budget. Anyone have experience with it? I hope there is a workaround with the iLO, but I figure the computer probably is what you will say is the answer. Thanks very much. Deborah
The way you copy at the moment is called "real time" and obviously takes as long as the movie is. You can copy using the P.C which copies the data on the disc either entirley or just the main movie if you wish using various software. Depending on the speed of your P.C the process would typically take an average of 1 1/2 hours, check the guides like DVD-9 to DVD-5. You will also retain digital soundtracks if you have a digital surround system to enjoy them on. If you have a desktop p.c I recommend you are running XP and install an internal drive. If you have a laptop and you use an external drive then I reccomend you connect via firewire rather than USB 2 which has a history all of its own in failed ripping and burning issues. There is much debate on which burners are the best & it changes all the time. Pioneer and Liteon brands are always a safe bet.
... Benq is a very popular drive with the AD members with countless people having major success with it ... .. Here's a good one for $43 http://www.mwave.com/mwave/skusearch.hmx?SCriteria=AA30680&CartID=done&nextloc=
