Anyone know why my core i7 heats up to nearly 100 C on all cores after running Half-Life 2 for barely a minute, when it was idling with each core around 60 C just moments before? Here are some screenshots to give you an idea of what's up.

I'm using an Antec 900 case with the fans set at low because they're loud as hell otherwise, but I used to have them on high, and it would still get up this high when converting videos.

It doesn't show it here, but I've had it where at least two cores are at 100 C and the other two are in the mid 90s.

i7 920s normally run pretty hot....there are 2 explanations...either its faulty..or the heat sink isn't sitting properly. My first i7 920 would randomly heat up to 80-90 degrees...at idle. That one was obviously faulty...my second one would run at 35-40 degrees at idle....so double check your heat sink and or take it back to where you bought it from and demand RMA

I've had this thing for nearly three years now; I think if it was improperly installed I would have seen symptoms aside from high temperature readings.

is cpu heatsink clean? might want to replace old cpu heatsink compound with new as the old compound might have dried up.

I'm fairly certain these readings have been like this since very early on.
