Hi All, I went into Nero Recode to try to burn to 2 drives as once and found out that my new SATA drive is not an option/doesn't appear in the drop down list. I seem to remember that inorder for ImgBurn to find the drive I had to change the setting off of Winaspi. Anyone have an idea how to correct this? Thanks!
Hi hobbit112 Which version of Nero are you using? Usually by default Nero 7 and ImgBurn use Microsoft's SPTI. Nero 6 uses the wnapsi32. You can try changing it in Recode by going to more>options>file i/o tab. Is this a 'full' version of Nero or an oem version? To burn at once to multiple recorders you'll need to use Burning Rom - it's the only app of Nero that supports this. So you can save it to your hard drive then use the multiple recorder option in Burning Rom.
The 'puter in question has Nero 6 and I believe it's an OEM version. I didn't see the option to switch to Burning ROM. I understand that I probably can't burn to multiple burners with this version but not having all my drives available as options under Recode kind of perturbs me.
It's probable an oem version - reason it doesn't have Burning Rom. OEM versions also sometimes only support the drive that they came with - that could be why Nero doesn't detect the new drive.
Well, the other burner in the system is a Lite-On which is what my SATA drive is. The OEM software has also recognized a Benq and a Sony in the past(I think the software came with the Benq). Do you think it could be the SATA part or could it be the Wnaspi? I had to change something in ImgBurn inorder for my SATA drive to appear.
What version of 6 are you using? If you not using the latest one - 6.6.15.1 - try updating it to that. Nero does have an auto defect feature that should pick up most drive but I'm not sure if that's mainly for ide connections or if the sata connection would make a diff. Try changing the aspi driver in options - you''ll have 2 there to pick form - spti & wnaspi.
Thanks, I'll give it a shot tonite, though I do remember clicking on the more button, but that might have been after the first Recode screen.
Hey binkie7, Went & tried setting the spti in recode & it was already set (I had looked at it earlier). The options are "Windows File System" and "SPTI/ASPI". I've tried both with no sucess. I also downloaded the ForceASPI, ran KILLASPI and then did the install. My Wnaspi is now operational! That's a plus! But it didn't help with making my sata drive available under Recode. I'm starting to wonder if the OEM software is what is not allowing it.
It might be - is this drive listed in any other of the of Nero's apps like Express? I'd try updating package 1 to the latest. I run that version on a pc and have no problems at all with it.
Yep, drive is available under Express as a target. I've also burned to the drive via Nero via Shrink. Wierd thing under Recode, the drive is available as a source but not a target.
Hmmm here's another suggestion you might want to give a go- try running the driver clean tool & registry cleaner - link. I'd do a clean uninstall then use the tool.
Yeah, that's a thought. I could also install the Nero 7 Essentials that came with the drive, but I do like Nero 6. Something might have happened with the os on that machine, I no longer get the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon anymore when I attach a usb device(and don't know how to get it back).
Nero 7 isn't bad But installing the oem you might lose some functionality - I think only 1 essentials suite comes w/ a trial of recode. Try this - right click on the system tray - pick properties>customize (in taskbar tab). Scroll down until you find safely remove hardware - it should be set to hide when inactive or always show. If it not click on the status and change it.
Not really - there's probably many possible causes. I guess the question is what's changed since it started happening.
Nothing installed or uninstalled sftware-wise, other than the sata drive & controller & controller software. Seem to remember that the icon might have disappeared before I did the install.
Oops - 'since' was a bad choice of wording - what changed before this starting happening might hold the key to it not showing up in the system tray. Check the properties - hopefully it's something as simple as changing the behavior type. edit to add - dumb ?'s but you've tried rebooting & a different usb port?
Well, I gave it a shot but no luck. Switched it from hide when inactive to show always, didn't show. One thing I noticed is that the icon associated with it according to the properties was a file folder icon, not the usb thingy. I'm thinking that all the free radicals have gotten to the os. I have another 'puter with xp where the "Safely Remove Hardware" doesn't even appear in the system tray>properties>customize (in taskbar tab). I know the os is kinda hosed on that computer (it does other wierd stuff) but don't want to do a format & clean install, too many progs & apps downloaded & installed directly without an install backup. Both of these computers are unable to install the latest .NET Security updates. Can't uninstall .NET either.
