    hello newbie here

i have just purchased a r4 card for my sons ds lite.I have managed to transfer the4 files from the cd that came from the box via a tutorial from you tube.I then created another folder called games,i then opened up that folder(games) and dragged some games i had, into that file. The first few games worked so i then dragged a couple more games into it and tried it in the ds, but when i loaded it up this time instead of playing, it said "Couldn't find_DS_MENU.DAT".I then went back to my sd card(removable G) and all the files were in gobbledy gook. What am i doing wrong or is it that you can't have more than 4 games on one card ? Its a 2 gb card.

    Many thanks

ps please go easy on me , reply in laymens terms please if possible.:)

Did you safely remove the SD card from the computer?

The only thing to do is reformat and try again, as good practice you should always leave 1MB per game on the card as free space (needed to create save files etc)but you should get more than 4 games on the card.

    hello kittymat,thanks for the reply.

I was looking at some tutorial on the web and it said to safely remove the hardware and it showed where to do it,so i did even though i don't know what it means.I think i then tried it again and put afew games on and it didn't work.I then went back to format the drive and there wasn't even a g drive there or a f drive for that matter ,i thought i had done something wrong when i "safely removed the hardware".i then restarted the pc and the f and g drives returned ( i bet your laughing )So what does it mean lol.

    hello again.
I started afresh by putting the four files on the micro card .i then created another file called games.I then copy and pasted individual games onto the card and tried each one as i went. The first three worked until i got to the fourth and i then got the error "Couldn't find_DS_MENU.DAT"..I then put the sd card back in the pc and now there is nothing on the card.Any help would be fantastic,as i don't have a clue what to do next.I didn't use the remove hardware facility as when i do use it my f and g removable drives go missing and i have to restart the pc.

    Thanks boroboy

Is it the same file - if the file is corrupt it may be overwriting the files.

    Try only known good files.

tried again, individual games work but soon as i put any more than 4 on i get the "Couldn't find_DS_MENU.DAT" error.I have reformatted the card,i have also downloaded the four files from r4.com and extracted them to the root of my sd card to see if it it my cd that is the problem but it still persists.

hello again,i tried my sd card in another computer and it worked.Firstly the card i was sent is only a 1gb sd micro card even though it has 2gb written on it.So i am not sure if the card is the problem or my computer.

    Glad you got it sorted

The card you were originally sent was a fake (it was hacked to show it was bigger than it was) Send it back for a replacement or scrap it.
