Hi guys I'm a little bit confsed on what to do here so I've come to experts for some advice. My CPU is busted, long story on how I did this but it's definitely busted. So I need to replace it. The problem is that the particular cpu that was in the system is discontinued nd I can't find a specific one anywhere. This is where my problem is and where I need some help. I've read and been told that if I put in a different spec of cpu to the one that was originally in th system, I have to run a BIOS upgrade. However, I can't do this without a working cpu. Can anyon advise me if this is correct?? Also, as can't get hold of a replacement cpu that matches the one in the system, can anyone recommend one that will run on my system? I've listed my MOBO specs below: Desktop is a Packard Bell Imedia 3034 with 1gb RAM Motherboard - Columbia VP (GA-8SIML-NF7) Specifications Form Factor: µATX 24.4 x 23.6 cm Form Factor CPU Support Socket mPGA 478B Supports Intel P4 FC-PGA2 (Flip-Chip Pin Grid Array), 1400 MHz to 2800 MHz Warning: not all the above processors have been qualified 100 MHz (x4 = 400 MHz) data bus support (Quad-Bumped technology) 133 MHz (x4 = 533 MHz) data bus support (Quad-Bumped technology) Support P4 Prescott 2.8 GHz FSB 533 Hopefully someone can advise me on what to do, Thanks
Hi ddp and thanks for the response. The original cpu speed was 2.53Gz and 533Mhz. I'm not really bothered about speeding it up at the moment. The original cpu was a Celeron D 325. My main worry is getting a processor that will plug straight in a run so, I'm just looking for some advice on what processor I should get? Cheers
can only use socket 478 133 MHz (x4 = 533 MHz) data bus support (Quad-Bumped technology) Support P4 Prescott 2.8 GHz FSB 533 bios update depends if there is 1 for your board.
