hi If im using a Intel Celeron D 2.80GHz (single core) Im not sure what socket i have, but would anyone know the best possible upgrade i could get for it? And is there such things as thses CPU Socket adapters? Im not sure what mobo i have, but it came with an acer aspire sa10 desktop PC thanks
going by this link which is the sa20 version. http://www.acerpanam.com/flex/ACER/acerspecification.cfm?id=299 it looks like you are using a socket 478 & not a socket 775 but not positive. Processor Intel® Pentium® 4 processor, up to 2.93GHz, 533/800MHz system bus or Intel® Celeron® processor up to 2.93GHz, 533MHz system bus
It's not worth upgrading your CPU. Even if you get the best socket 478 CPU it wont increase performance much.
ok thanks for your reply's wellll, my CPU is pretty old, if i got a P4 3.20GHz would i notice a increase in performance then? its been overheated a few times aswell, and sometimes things get slow, they didnt used to, could it be a little damaged? once it go so hot it turned itself off, and right before i was about to save something!!! lol cuz the fan stoped :/ thanks aaron
if it overheats with a celeron, it'll overheat much faster with a P4. Those things run HOT. If the fan isn't working, fix the fan!
the fan working perfectly, i just stuffed up when i set the fan speed using CPUcool. it turned off after a while, i think it was because the program crashed or something and i had earphones in so yea... but it runs pretty cool
Fair enough, never heard of that problem, but I've never used that program either. Realistically, you're probably looking at a maximum gain of 25% using the P4 3.2, whereas going with even a cheap new CPU in a new board such as the E2200 would give you a monumental boost of around 220%. Oh, and by the way, before you get collared by a moderator, the maximum file size for signatures on aD is 50KB, and yours is three times that. Might be wise to cut it down a bit... ;-)
oh ok...well thanks so theres no such thing as an adapter so i can use socket 775? i know you can run 478 on a 775 with an adapter but could it be done the other way around? thanks!
no as somebody else might want to post here & fix the sig ASAP as is 171,039 bytes & forum rules states no more then 50k.
That's not the point. People who open this page have to load it. For 56k users they have to wait an entire minute for your signature to load before they can see the rest of the page.
